The Audi Multi Media Interface (MMI) will get both CarPlay and Android Auto functionality by 2015 as part of a collaboration with both Apple and Google, the auto maker announces.

Audi“Our customers want to be "always on" and use the services they know from their smartphones in cars as well,” Audi says. “In this regard, we are working closely with leading companies like Google and Apple. In the future, customers will be able to use the functions available to them on their smartphones via the operating systems in their cars as well."

The Audi MMI proposal provides customers with a choice between the two most popular smartphone platforms, with users being able to switch between platforms at any time.

The auto maker says "intensive dialog" is currently going on between Apple and the Audi development lab over CarPlay integration.

Audi is also a founding member of the Google Open Automotive Alliance (OAA) together with General Motors and Hyundai. Its initial results were shown off at the Google I/O conference in the shape of the CarPlay-style Android Auto platform.
