The Fastest Growing Players in Smart Building: IT/CE Channel Partners

Whether it’s Smart Home, Smart Office or Smart Building, CE/IT dealers, distributors and installers find their interest in smart building rising. It’s inspired by the connectivity, as our industry becomes more digital and network-driven. Today the Internet of Things (IoT) enters the home, making all our homes "conected homes." We interview the man in the center of this transition, Jan Nintemann, the head of The Center of Smart Building at CeBIT’s Planet Reseller.

Tell us why Global Fairs TT-Messe has created this initiative inside CeBIT’s Planet Reseller?

For more than 15 years, we have had one of the most successful pavilions inside Planet Reseller, the trade-only area of CeBIT. There we have always brought new technology and new trends to resellers and distributors from across Europe and the Middle East. For example, we were the first to bring in mobile technologies.

Today we see that the channels need to find new profit areas, new ways to make business grow. Many interesting retail chains and installers have shown the way partners can get into smart home, smart building. Today far more channel partners are selling smart home and smart office.

But they need to accelerate. These channel partners are following the big IT players--like IBM, Cisco and Google—into Smart Building and Internet of Things. But we feel they need to meet even more new vendors and gain more insight into the opportunity. The connected home: it’s the future…

CEATEC 2016 Demos the Future

With 648 exhibitors (up 22%), and 145,180 visitors (up 9.1%), the annual Advanced Technology exhibition in Tokyo, CEATEC, serves as an important showplace for Japan's latest technology. Contributing Editor Peter Weber returns from his CEATEC visit to share a few of the latest products that might interest our readers.

At CEATEC 2016, Sharp has developed the word’s first 8K TV Receiver. [Shown in photo.] The bulky model will be used by NHK only to test reception of the trial transmissions which are running in Japan since August 2016. Sharp intends to have TV sets with built-in 8K receiver ready for a roll-out in 2017  for the launch of regular 8K broadcasts by NHK in 2018.

Panasonic introduced the world's first camera with 3D stabilizer. Unaffected by any movement, the camera stays steady. This is especially interesting for all outdoor activity shooting with action cams or when used in drones. As Face Detection is also integrated, the camera can follow a person (despite frequent movement) to shoot clear images. [Shown in photo at very bottom of this article.]

What Goes on INSIDE the RESELLER PARK at IFA?

GfK Predicts Global CE Growth in 2014-2015

At the IFA Global Press Conference 2014 (largest one yet) held in Turkey, analyst GfK presented some good news-- the global CE market should return to growth in 2014 (1%) and 2015 (5%) thanks to an improving world economy and growing TV and PC sales.

From our region the bulk of such growth should come from MEA, as Europe will make only a "minor contribution."

Dr. Christian Göke, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Berlin says, “We are already eagerly awaiting IFA 2014, and for the first time we can offer an increased area in response to the continuing high level of demand from exhibitors. With the CityCube Berlin we have not only gained 6,000 square metres of urgently needed display space, but it also creates new opportunities for meeting exhibitors’ additional requirements.

"This event will again provide the markets with an effective impetus," gfu chairman Hans-Joachim Kamp adds. "With a new congress and its traditionally large number of new products on display, along with innovative solutions and unique new products making their world debut, IFA 2014 is again setting new standards."

2014 also sees the launch of the "IFA+ Summit", an international forum bringing together top executives and minds from the technology and content fields, as well as discussion on new trends and ideas. The IFA 2014 opening keynote will be Samsung president and CEO, Boo-Keun Yoon.

CityCube

Important changes on the fairgrounds

When visitors arrive for IFA 2014 on 5-10 September 2014, the Berlin Exhibition Grounds will be dramatically changed forever by the addition of the CityCube.

CityCube is big enough to host events with up to 11,000 participants when it opens in May 2014. The multi-storey structure will dominate the Messe Süd entrance and lead into Hall 7.

At the same time the iconic ICC Berlin (across the street from Halls 13, 14, 15, 16) will terminate operations in order to undergo extensive restoration work.

The First European TCG Retail Summit

The First European TCG Retail Summit

At the European TCG Retail Summit 2014, top decision-makers from across Europe will get together to discuss the future of technical consumer goods retail (TCG).

Picture someone standing in an aisle of a store looking at their phone. Where are they in their shopping journey? Can you tell? Are they doing research, checking prices, sharing an image through social media or getting ready to buy from a competitor? Are they looking for customer service or are they trying to avoid it?

Mobile and social have led to a revolution a revolution in retail and have caused seismic shifts in customer behaviour. It seems to have disrupted the purchase path so much that it is nearly impossible to tell whether that person in that store is there to buy or showroom-- and where they might go next.
