TomTom Won’t Meet 2008 Target

IBM and Intel may be happy with Q1 but TomTom says it won't meet its 2008 target of 20% growth.

 

The €2 billion TomTom thinks Q1 revenue will be in €260- €270 million range vs. €296 million last year. Operating margins will fall to "low single digits." SiRF Technology, GPS chip maker, says there’s weaker-than-expected demand for all products, especially personal navigation devices. They will reduce workforce by 7%, close South San Francisco and Stockholm offices, and pull the plug on plans to develop mobile TV products. GPS was the darling of retail in 2007, so this trend from the chip provider may foretell future retail inventories.

No, TomTom Can’t BuyBuy, Says EC

The EC objects to TomTom’s €2.9 billion plans to purchase map supplier Tele Atlas. The statement gives TomTom a date (May 5th) by which it will have to come up with remedies to EC concerns.
