Google TV Makes it to Europe via Sony

Sony launches the first Google TV products for the European market-- the NSZ-GS7 Google TV STB and the NSZ-GP9 Google TV-enabled Blu-ray player, both first seen at CES 2012.

Both devices use a custom version of Android Honeycomb (with an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade available soon), and have access to around 150 special big-screen apps via online app store.

Onkyo introduces the latest additions to its mid-range home theatre portfolio-- the HT-S6500 and HT-S7500, with 4K video support and upconversion (via Marvel Qdeo processor), 192 kHz/24-bit DACs, networking capabilities and Audyssey 2EQ.

Sony Combines TV Tuner with NAS

Sony upgrades the PlayTV tuner/DVR with the Nasne-- a combination networked recorder, NAS and antenna/satellite TV tuners for use with the Sony devices.

It either records (on 500GB SATA HDD) or streams broadcasts to up to x2 Sony products (PS Vita, Playstation 3 with Torne app, Vaio PC, Sony Tablet or Xperia phone) on the same network.

Ikea will soon start selling furniture with built-in home entertainment systems with UPPLEVA ("experience" in Swedish)-- a range offering an "integrated solution for the living room."

100 Channels for British Roku Boxes

The British version of the Roku player celebrates a milestone-- the internet-connected STB now offers over 100 video, music and casual game channels following its January 2012 launch.

The Roku launched in the UK and Ireland with 40 channels, including Netflix, BBC iPlayer, FoxNews.com and Euronews.

Google TV Heading to Europe

It appears Google TV is going to make it to Europe after all-- according to financial paper Les Échos Sony is going to launch Google TV-based products on our shores sometime around October 2012.

Speaking with Sony France marketing director Stephan Labrousse, Les Échos says Google TV will come to Europe in 2 flavours-- a regular STB and integrated with a Blu-ray player.

Onkyo Adds 4K to Mid-Range Receivers

Onkyo adds two 7.2 network-connected home theatre receivers to its mid-range series-- the TX-NR717 and TX-NR818, both carrying THX-certified sound.

The TX-NR818 also offers Audyssey MultEQ XT32 audio calibration and an "exclusive dual core engine," the HQV Vida VHD 1900 video processor. Using a Marvel Qdeo processor, it upscales all inputs to up to 1080p and digital sources to up to 4K resolutions. Continue reading...
