Pioneer Systems Get CarPlay

CarPlay PioneerPioneer announces its first aftermarket in-dash auto systems equipped with CarPlay connectivity, with 5 such solutions getting compatibility with the Apple interface by Q3 2014 via firmware update.

The systems in question are the AVIC-F60DAB, AVIC-F960DAB, AVIC-F960BT, AVIC-F860BT and the AVH-X8600BT. All feature "large" LCD displays armed with a more advanced UI, sound quality improvements and safety enhancements.

Meanwhile CarPlay provides Siri voice control, Apple Maps and iTunes Radio via Lightning cable and iPhone 5, 5s or 5c.

"Pioneer's years of expertise integrating smartphone connectivity into the automotive environment has provided us the opportunity to be among the first to offer CarPlay to drivers," the company says. "By providing an aftermarket option, Pioneer's 2014 in-dash multimedia systems give many iPhone owners the ability to add CarPlay to their current vehicles."

First announced in April at the Geneva Motor Show, CarPlay will also be built in select 2014 vehicles from the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, PSA Peugeot Citro├źn, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota.
